Lethabo le Khutso is situated in Rietondale, Pretoria and provides specialized services to 29 adults living with Autism.
The organization was established in 2002, and strives to develop a service profile of international standards on three specific levels:
Specialized services in the Autism sector are scarce, with limited facilities and options available in South Africa, particularly for adults with Autism. Lethabo le Khutso is dedicated to research, and develops opportunities for and with this exclusive group of individuals, based on international models.
The challenge remains to implement and adapt these models locally, where lack of finances and misconceptions about disabilities, especially mental disabilities, are daily challenges.
Before Lethabo le Khutso (LLK), meaning "long awaited place of peace and happiness", opened its doors in November 2002 there were only two autism-specific centres for adults in South Africa ,
Lethabo le Khutso (NPC) was originally registered as a Section 21 (non-profit) company in 2002. The facility was managed with a constitution by a board of directors, with financial statements audited by chartered accountants
LLK will provide beneficiaries with a safe and secure environment, to accommodate an integrated alternative home-centered living facility, offer a respite care service, and support lifelong learning, as well as working opportunities
